As your Ward 1 Alderman, I am proud to have worked on six different committees, including Special Events which I chair, Parks, Finance, Streets & Utilities, Community Development, and Personnel and Insurance.
Achievements include:
Special Events Chair:
Writing and passing the city’s first Special Events Policy resolution, and assisting many event organizers to successfully manage festivals and community causes. This included working with city offices, public works, and festival organizers to manage logistical needs to arrange successful events.
In addition, I, along with fellow committee members, successfully pursued a new budget line item for Special Events, allowing for the purchase of new holiday decor for city streets and future development of event space for the residents of Plano.
Developing City Center Lot
City Center lot has remained an undeveloped space in the center of Plano for several years. While the city looks to develop a more permanent event locale, the city center lot has become a great central location for festivals.
Working with the city council and public works department, I helped facilitate the addition of electrical outlets throughout the lot and water access to the location.
Holiday Lights
In 2019, I drafted and developed the city’s first Holiday Lights display at City Center with community support and participation in adding holiday cheer for everyone in Plano.
City Calendar
I requested the City Calendar be open to all citizens and organizations to share information and dates for events. We hope to continue this effort to have all groups and organizations utilize a common calendar to help everyone share in future events and causes.
Public Art
Working collaboratively with the city, the Rotary Club of Plano, and local businesses, we successfully started the city’s first Public Art project. Several benches are being painted and set into public spaces throughout the city in this multiyear project, including Foli Park, Memorial Park, City Park, Lathrop Park, and other locations throughout the city.
